Okay, I can’t believe I managed this.
You might not know this, but I’ve been on medical leave from my day job for burnout since winter, and I also haven’t been able to finish a TTRPG of any scope at all. I’ve been stuck, ideating, getting briefly inspired, and then losing my way and leaving a trail of forgotten WIPs.
But then I picked one back up. Friday, in fact - suddenly, I went from being unable to finish a game to finishing one almost in a single sitting! And then today I finished a basic, classic layout and an itch page, and here it is.
What is Unspeakable Gate?
Unspeakable Gate is an artifact creation game. Unlike most games in the genre, which focus on visual art and papercraft like maps and journals, Unspeakable Gate is a sculpting game.
When you are finished playing the game, you will have a model, miniature, or sculpture. Depending on your materials (and I’ve included a lot of information about your materials option) you can even keep this sculpture permanently, making it the perfect game to generate a spooky evil portal for your TTRPG group’s next battlemap. With step by step instructions, even if you’ve never made something like this before, Unspeakable Gate makes it easy to know your options and design something spooky.
The story revolves around an artist working on this Gate, and slowly losing their grip on our reality as the nightmare realm beyond the Gate calls to them.
The dice prompts are strange, definitely classic Surreal Cat stuff, so if you like my weird writing, Unspeakable Gate may be your thing.
I hope you check it out! And, I’m now off to celebrate my first proper release in what feels like forever.
